October 8, 2026
On most mornings the first lights on at 8687 N. Port Washington Road come on around 5 a.m. That's Donut Zone, which held its grand opening in August in a roughly 1,400-square-foot storefront that used to house a screen-printing business. A few doors south, Jose's Blue Sombrero is now Las Cazuelas. Up on Bradley Road, the old Port China building is being remodeled for Chucho's Red Tacos.
None of these is new construction. Fox Point's 2026 restaurant openings are going into buildings that already stood on the village's small commercial strip. The operators taking them over mostly run quick, casual formats built around a morning stop or a weekday lunch. Two of the year's approvals included drive-throughs, and the Village Board voted on them five weeks apart.
Here's where each address stands as of the end of September 2026.
| Address | Previous occupant | New operator | Status as of Sept. 30, 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 8687 N. Port Washington Rd. | Screen-printing business | Donut Zone | Open; grand opening held in August |
| 8617 N. Port Washington Rd. | Jose's Blue Sombrero | Las Cazuelas Chilaquiles & Taco Bar | Open, per the restaurant's own location listing |
| 310 W. Bradley Rd. | Port China | Chucho's Red Tacos | Approved Aug. 18; no opening date announced |
The new operators get kitchens, parking and storefronts that are already in place. The trade-off is that each one had to go back through the village. Las Cazuelas went to the Plan Commission for a conditional use permit on April 6. Chucho's needed a public hearing and a Village Board vote before it could add a drive-through lane with a pickup window to the existing building.
Donut Zone is the clearest example of the morning-first pattern. The shop advertises about 60 doughnut flavors made on site. Alongside cake and filled doughnuts, it sells cronuts, pastries, croissant breakfast sandwiches and coffee. The published menu lists croissant sandwiches with ham, turkey, bacon, sausage, or egg and cheese, plus hot and iced coffee. An expanded specialty coffee and boba menu is described as coming soon.
A September local listing gives the hours as 5 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a 6 a.m. start on Sundays and no service on Tuesdays. The shop's own website doesn't confirm those hours, so check before an early run. Kolaches are still an open question too. The shop's site labels them "Coming Soon," while the same local write-up says cheddar and jalapeño-cheddar versions have shown up on the ordering menu with varying availability.
The ordering page lists the operator as Donut Zone Fox Point LLC and shows only the Fox Point address.
The other two openings have more in common than their timing. Both operators started in the western part of the metro area, and both sell some version of a cheese-and-birria taco.
Las Cazuelas is a West Allis restaurant that has expanded into Fox Point. Its locations page now lists exactly two spots, West Allis and Fox Point. The Fox Point address appeared on the Village Board's June 9 agenda under liquor licenses, two months after the Plan Commission took up its permit. The menu is built around chilaquiles with several sauce choices, plus street tacos and what the menu calls "Quesa-Birria." It also runs a Friday Mexican fish fry, a familiar Wisconsin tradition given a new spin. The restaurant's own pages list different hours. Its homepage shows 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, while its locations page shows later hours, so call ahead before a late dinner.
Chucho's Red Tacos is locally and woman-owned. The company was founded in 2020, and BizTimes reported in July that it runs two southeastern Wisconsin locations, in Milwaukee and West Allis. It has also grown through venues. OnMilwaukee reported a Zócalo Food Park location opening April 21, 2026, and listed Fiserv Forum, American Family Field and Ope! Brewing Co. among its earlier expansions. The signature dish is birria tacos served with consommé for dipping, in beef or chicken. The menu's "Quesitaco" is a crispy corn taco filled with melted cheese and birria.
In the plans filed with the village, owner Thaime Gómez said Fox Point offered "an opportunity to bring a unique, high-quality fast-casual dining experience to the community." The proposed menu covers burritos, tacos, quesadillas, nachos, and rice and beans. Beer and margaritas would be served, though BizTimes reported that the restaurant won't operate as a bar.
Chucho's matters for more than its menu. It is one of two drive-through restaurants the Village Board approved this summer. Here's how the approvals lined up.
Neither drive-through is open yet, and each is at a different stage. As of the Sept. 21 local report, Chucho's hadn't announced an opening date. Its application proposes seven-day hours from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. with dine-in, drive-through and carryout. The application also asks to run one of the company's food trucks on site while the old Port China building gets a full interior remodel and a partial exterior remodel.
The Riverpoint building is about 4,485 square feet and replaces the former McDonald's building on the site. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel described it as a $1.5 million project, and the second tenant hasn't been named. The Starbucks application lists March 2027 as its proposed occupancy date. The village staff report notes that site plan approval, building permits and engineering permits are still required. Neither the September 8 Village Board agenda nor the September 14 Plan Commission agenda included a follow-up on the Starbucks building at 8739. Until permits are issued and work starts, treat March 2027 as the applicant's goal. It isn't a construction schedule.
Acronym Brewing is the one sit-down, evening-oriented project in the pipeline. It has also gone the longest without news. In March 2026, Milwaukee Magazine reported that the brewery had received final village approval in December. It was still aiming for a late-2026 opening in the former service station at 8000 N. Port Washington Road. No update between July and September confirmed construction or a new timeline. With three months left in the year, the late-2026 date is still the March target, not a confirmed one.
For now, the openings you can actually visit are the doughnut shop and the taco bar, and the next ones to arrive are a drive-through taco spot and a drive-through coffee shop.
This timing matters more now because the Fox Point Farmers' Market has wrapped up. The market's own website lists the 2026 season as June 13 through September 26, and Milwaukee Magazine's 2026 market guide gives the same dates. If you've seen an October 11 end date somewhere, it doesn't match the market's current schedule.
There are still Saturday plans on the calendar. Doctors Park Friends is hosting a buckthorn Weed Out on Saturday, October 3, from 9 a.m. to noon, and the village says volunteers don't need to register. On Saturday, October 10, the Fox Point Foundation holds a family fall bonfire and double-feature movie at Indian Creek Park from 5 to 10 p.m. Donut Zone's posted hours put it open well before the Weed Out begins, and Las Cazuelas is open for Saturday lunch and dinner.
